Dare to Believe

November has rolled around and the ghosts of all hollows have not come out to frighten a Newcastle team that has insured their best league start in over sixty one years.

Still undefeated in the league and now the only team to have gone to Stoke on Trent and won, I could go on with the records and achievements but it is more important to focus on the true reality of the situation facing us.

We are six victories from safety. Which means our Premier League status is almost assured as one would have faith that between now and next spring the victories will have been attained.

Demba BaDemba Ba’s emergence is still surprising even the harshest critics and the guile and determination displayed against Blackburn would warm the heart of even Avram Grant.

For now Everton at home lies in wait, this is the type of game that could easily stop our runaway train of excitement and joy. Thirteen places may separate both teams but this is the Premier League and anything is possible.

For now Alan Pardew is ticking the boxes but we must not dare believe and think of European lands not so far away when the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United are just weeks away.

This team may break records but it hasn’t won anything yet and it can still break the hearts and dreams of Toon fans who know the feeling of coming close and being left behind.

  • If we are still in the same position at Xmas I think we will start to believe and remember European nights at St James Park.
