Gervinho NUFC Transfer Rumour
Gervinho – Possible Transfer Target for Newcastle United FC
Every week since Andy Carroll sealed his £35m move to Liverpool, Newcaslte United FC have been linked with signing Gervinho. The player is a centre forward currently playing in France and has had a great 2010/2011 season helping Lille OSC reach the top of a very competitive French Ligue 1 with 7 games to go. Having scored 12 league goals, 14 in all competitions this season and sitting 2nd in top assists with 12. These stats give you an idea of how much of a talent and all-round threat he is.
Full Name: Gervais Yao Koassi, but commonly known as Gervinho.
Current Club: Lille OSC
Playing Position: Forward (Winger/Striker)
D.O.B: 27th May 1987 (now 23)
Height: 5ft 11in
Birthplace: Anyama, Ivory Coast
International: 24Caps, 5 Goals
£12m, however a reported £40m deal for him and Lille OSC and Ligue 1 top scorer ‘Moussa Sow’ could be a closer estimate.
How Would Gervinho Fit in at NUFC?
Gervinho has proven his worth playing for Lille OSC this season with impressive stats and rave reviews from french football fanatics. It is also important to note that his attacking partner ‘Moussa Sow’ has netted an impressive 21 Goals so far this season for Lille OSC in the Ligue 1, many of those goals coming from Gervinho assists. Speculation linked Sow and Gervinho to Newcastle United in a £40m package deal. Whether that is a possibility or not, the partnership that the two players have formed proves that Gervinho’s capabilities of producing and scoring goals is excellent. His pace down the wing and importantly his assists will bring something to NUFC we dont have. Goals coming from play down the wings seems to have decreased since the loss of Andy Carroll. With a striker added to the NUFC roster, a new outlet upfront would be created. His pace and trickery would cause problems for central defenders and if the young Ivorian was to sign for the Toon Army, he would definately win over the fans with his consistent, positive attacking play and flair. Finally as an Ivorian, he would certainly fit into the team with the support and help of his fellow Ivory Coast teammate Cheick Tiote, who has become a vitally important player at NUFC since joining in August 2010.
Transfer Truth: 7.5/10 - A lot of Pardew’s scouts are doing their work in France and with his contract gradually coming to an end we expect (hope) some form of offer to be placed in the summer.
