NUFC Transfer Rumours #1

As Newcastle United FC continue to be linked with every player in the French league and beyond, I felt it was necessary to give you some information on each player and give you my thoughts on them. This is the 1st of what I’d like to see becoming a weekly post, so please do keep checking back!

Name: Mevlüt Erdinç

Age: 24

Position: Striker

Club: PSG (Paris St.Germain) – Ligue 1

Nationality: French and Turkish Citizen

Caps: 10 caps for Turkey (1 Goal)

PSG’s starlet has recently dropped in the pecking order at Le Parc des Princes after the French clubs new Qatari owners  plan to splash out to make PSG the force they were once before in Ligue 1. Having already spent €11 million on NUFC targert Kevin Gamerio, the French born Turkish citizen doesn’t seem to be or want to be in the future plans in Paris and is looking for a switch to the Premier League to kickstart his career again. With an impressive 22 goals in 51 games for PSG, a swoop would give the new look French squad at NUFC a prolific and proven goalscorer, who is only going to develop with match experience.

I give Mevlüt Erdinç a rating of 75/100 with an added, promising future.

Its seems as if Newcastle are looking into the French market, very much like Arsenal have, to develop a young and affordable team which can develop into a squad capable of winning trophies. I think Newcastle will complete the signing of Erdinc and he will fit into the team perfectly, with the players agent stating to goal.com that “any players in France would love to play for Newcastle”.

Signing Possibilty: 9/10

Name: Blaise Matuidi

Age: 24

Position: Defensive Midfielder

Club: AS St.Etienne – Ligue 1

Nationality: French

Caps: 3 caps for France

Blaise Matuidi, of Angolan descent, currently plays as a combative defensive midfielder and fits nicely in AS St. Etienne’s line up. Despite being a defensive midfielder he often occupies a withdrawn position as a  deeplying-playmaker and is described as a “fierce and strong tackler”. He seems very keen to make the next step in his career to a Premier League club, who’s playing rosters are beginning to turn highly French.

With Arsenal also interested in Matuidi, Newcastle United may find it hard to capture his services, however a representative of the player and Erdinc continued to say to goal.com “all the French lads who go to Newcastle are really enthusiastic about the club and the football public in the North East too.”

I give Blaise Matuidi a rating of 79/100, with a bright future at only 24. Dubbed the new Makelele!

Signing Possibility: 6.5/10

Charles N'Zogbia

Name: Charles N’Zogbia

Age: 25

Position: Winger

Club: Wigan Athletic – Premier League

Nationality: French

Caps: 2 caps for France

N’Zogbia looks set to return to the North East for the second time in his career after first leaving in 2009. NUFC manager at the time, Joe Kinnear, pronounced his name as ‘insomnia’ during a TV post match interview. The young Frenchman stated he wouldn’t play for NUFC under Kinnear again and joined Wigan. Two years later after an impressive later season, being a major part in securing Wigan’s Premier League status, North East rivals Newcastle and Sunderland are battling it out for a proven player with Premiership experience, assured promise and flair. His price tag stands at around £9m with his wages expected to cost £60,000 a week.

I give Charles N’Zogbia a rating of 80/100. If he steps his game up and settles down at a club like Newcastle, I honestly believe he could be one of the most promising midfielders in the Premier League.

Signing Possibility: 8/10 (I expect him to re-join NUFC rather than SAFC, after various comments he has made recently).
