NUFC Transfer Rumours #5

Columbus Crew vs Newcastle United

As Newcastle United’s US Tour comes to a close tomorrow when the Toon take on MLS title chasers Columbus Crew, NUFC fans are hoping for some activity in the transfer market, but following recent events, it looks as if the activity may involve player(s) leaving the club rather than bringing in reinforcements.

Jose Enrique in Twittergate #2

Jose EnriqueManager Alan Pardew, when asked about Newcastle’s wantaway full back Jose Enrique  told The Journal:

As a manager, of course I want him to stay. The worst thing for us would be if he went late, that’s the problem.

We are trying to do some business because we need to cover ourselves in that area between now and the end of the window regardless of Enrique.

I am confident well get at least one, and maybe two, big players in here.

This came about after Jose Enrique’s rant on Twitter regarding the club’s transfer policy. These were his words:

They don’t want spend in the club and bring quality players, that’s why everybody (wants to) go.

The club has allowed all the major players in the team to leave, Andy Carroll, Kevin Nolan etc. Seriously, do you think this is the fault of the players?

This club will never fight again to be among the top six with this policy.

TwitterEnrique’s comments are clearly going to help push through a move away from the club for him, if not provoke the situation he stands in. He is still with the sqaud in America and is likely to play against Colombus Crew.

Joey Barton’s Reiteration to Stay

Joey BartonJoey Barton has also been in the headlines this past week, again with quotes taken from ‘social website for the stars‘.

Barton has been linked with Manchester United over the last few days, despite stressing his determination to stay with Newcastle on Twitter. The midfielder is yet to agree an extension to the remaining 12 months of his contract.

Pardew said:

I think Joey will be here. He has said all along that he wants to stay and I want him to stay, so there is no conflict there.

Barton, on Twitter:

Nice to be linked with some big clubs today but I honestly don’t want to leave Newcastle. Thanks but no thanks. #unfinishedbusinesshere

I will most likely leave Newcastle at end of season, when my contract expires and I am no longer employed. Its out of my hands #iwanttostay?

So if Barton and Enrique leave, NUFC’s already thin squad will need a real bolster. Pardew’s commetns claim we wil lsign at least 1, maybe two ‘big’ players? I predict that number to be one. So who’s it going to be?

Newcastle Boss Pardew Agrees £7m Fee for PSG Striker Erdinc

Headline from the Daily Mail at 11:49pm, 24th July.

Mevlut ErdincIn my opinion no one knows the real truth in the Mevlut Erdinc transfer saga. The PSG striker’s agent claims he wants to stay and then a different source says he wants to go. It is fair to say we will just have to wait until either a deal is done or the window closes.

Erdinc has struck 23 goals in 65 outings for PSG since his €9m  moves from fellow Ligue 1 side Sochaux and could be a good snatch for ‘Le Toon’, whose French revoulotion has slightly stalled since the signing of promising midfielder Mehdi Abeid.

If we follow most of the media reports of today (25/07/11), both French and English sources claim all that is left to confirm is personal terms.

For more on Mevlut Erdinc please click here for my opinion on him.

Whatever happens at the Crew Stadium tomorrow, all NUFC fans will be focusing their eyes on Mike Ashley’s wallet to see whether he will splash the cash to bring in a much-needed striker and also what he/the club can do to keep the current stars of the team at St James’ Park.

  • Did you see that tripe in the paper today about Crouch!?! 1. They want £9m for him which we wouldn’t pay as long as I have an ar5e, and he is well above the age threshold of our transfer blueprint. If I was to have a guess what our frontline would be come the KO on Aug 13th, I’d say Ba & Erdinc/Long, with many target men in the squad we clearly need someone with a bit of pace and skill to play off them and compliment their strength with a bit of mobility. One name that I haven’t heard this transfer window is self proclaimed toon fan Per Skjelbred…. what’s going on there? I’d also thought that interest had cooled in Moussa Sow but my mate at the club reckons we still have a bid on the table there.

  • When you say “since the signing of Medhi Abeid” he was actually the first of the 4 brought in. It just couldn’t be anounced until the 1ST of july, WeeWomenKnow,
